Cave Perama

Perama Cave is the first cave in Greece to be opened to tourists, but also remains the first and most impressive cave due to its size. The cave was discovered by accident in 1940, in 1956 fossilized bones and teeth were discovered for the first time. At the end of the war, amateur speleologist Konstantinos Kasvikis and his team took photographs of the cave and published them in the press. This is how Ioannis and Anna Petrocheilou learned about Perama Cave and began a systematic exploration and mapping of the cave in order to open it to cave enthusiasts and tourists. Perama Cave is one of the most beautiful caves in the world, created by nature, 1500000 years ago, in the depths of Gorica Hill. The natural phenomena of the cave are among the richest, as in other caves they reach a maximum of 6-10 types of stalactites and stalagmites, while in Perama Cave there are 19 of them. The cave has picturesque lakes with stone water lilies and crystal clear water in which stalactites and stalagmites are reflected. After leaving the cave at 25 meters, there is a wonderful view of the town of Janina and Lake Pamvotida, famous for the historical legend of Kira Frosini and Ali Pasha.
