Varvakeios agora is the city market of the city of Athens, which is named after the philanthropist John Varvakis. Construction of the market began in 1878 and was completed with a delay in 1886, after a fire broke out in the market on August 8, 1884. It is an organized neighborhood market that houses retail food products such as meat, poultry, seafood, agricultural products and more. It is located in the center of Athens, near City Hall and the central Kotzia Square. The market continues to serve the needs of residents and visitors today.
