Ali Pasha Museum

On the island of Janina, in the hospitable area of the monastery of Ag. Panteleimon, which Ali Pasha turned into a vacation home. The Museum of the Revolutionary Period first opened in 1958. The Ali Pasha and Revolutionary Period Museum, which includes the large collection of Fotis Rapakousis, has been located in the same premises since May 2012. In the main building are exhibited objects directly or indirectly related to Ali Pasha during his period of activity (1788-1822), and in the second building are relics from the period of the Greek revolutionary struggle with the overthrow of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. It also houses unique historical relics. Such as the gold caryophile of Ali Pasha from 1804, the silver sword of Apostolos Arsakis from 1813, the original costume of Kira Vasiliki wife of Ali Pasha, the famous long mouthpiece of Ali Pasha, the curtains with embroidered monograph of Sultan Mahmut II from 1808-1836 and many more. The beautiful surroundings of the museum are protected by a 700-year-old plane tree, and in the same area are caves that housed holy figures like the 15th century ascetic St. Sava and others. In these caves the inhabitants of the island took refuge from the Italian Air Force bombardment in November 1940.
