Balta di Striga waterfalls

The waterfalls of Balta di Striga are located just one kilometer from the village of Iliohorio. They are three waterfalls that follow one after another along the stream, the largest one being over 25 meters high. Between them and in the rocks are ponds created by the rushing icy waters of Kriopotamos. Balta di Striga means "ovira (small lake) scream" in the local dialect. Legend has it that a woman decided to commit suicide and jumped into the falls emitting a loud scream, which was heard by the villagers. The waterfalls are located east of the village of Iliohorio, at an altitude of about 780 meters. There are stone benches and beautiful scenery on the way to the waterfalls, and on hot summer days you can bathe in the icy water of the lake. Not far away is the stone Petsos Bridge, built in 1887.
