Plaka - Peacock forest

Plaka Forest or Peacock Forest is one of the most interesting places on the island, located near the village of Andimahia, about 27 km from the capital of the island. This picturesque coniferous grove is home to hundreds of peacocks, which live without any cages or fences. The birds fly freely up into the tall pine trees and walk around the beautiful glades, spreading their fan-shaped tails to the delight of tourists and children. Birds are so used to people that if a bird is in a good mood, he can even let himself be held in their arms. Peacocks, although they are in virtually wild conditions, are so much accustomed to human presence that it is hard to call them wild. There are huge peacock feathers scattered on the ground, which you can take as a souvenir. Besides peacocks, there are cats and birds in the forest, and they live peacefully. In the middle of the forest there is a small lake with freshwater turtles, and in the forest there are small streams with small wooden bridges. A special recreation area with tables, benches and barbecues is built for vacationers.
