Elafonisi Beach

Elafonisi beach is located 76 km from Chania, it is a small island with white sand, which is separated from the mainland by a lagoon no more than 1 meter deep. Elafonisi means deer island, but you will not see deer walking on the island or in the surroundings. The territory of the island is part of the protected natural area of the Natura Reserve. The island's sand dunes are home to white lilies, which bloom in the fall and are endangered. Carreta - Carreta turtles and other animals lay their eggs here. On the peninsula there are several beautiful beaches with white sand and turquoise water, reminiscent of the exotic landscape of the Caribbean, on the island beaches are less crowded but more beautiful and where you can completely isolate yourself or even sunbathe naked. The sand in many places turns pink from thousands of broken shells. The beach is organized with umbrellas, showers, lifeguards, beach bar and changing rooms, so it attracts a lot of tourists.
