Kastellorizo, Greece

The largest Grotto in Greece

In the south of the island is one of the most spectacular natural wonders, known for its dripping richness and blue waters. The "blue cave" of Kastellorizo is home to seals, which are usually invisible to visitors. The cave is 35 meters high, 40 meters wide and the length of the cave inside is 75 meters. However, its entrance between the water and the rock is so small that it is hard to tell what the height will be after a while. The cave is covered with white stalactites, which are one of the rarest geological phenomena on Earth. When sunlight hits the cave, the stalactites take on unique colors and the water turns blue, instantly stunning every visitor. The best time to visit the cave is in the morning. Visiting the cave is done only by boat and of course in good weather, but it is possible to sail into the cave only on small boats. When the wind rises and a storm starts, the entrance is closed, and the cave is inaccessible. In addition to the famous Blue Cave, there are four other caves of rare geological beauty in Castellorizo: Fotsaliki, Colones, Arnauti Cave and Catranzi.
