Drogarati Cave

The Drogarati Cave was discovered about 300 years ago, when a strong earthquake collapsed one part of it and the entrance to the cave appeared. The cave was explored by the Greek Speleological Society and since 1963 it has been open for visits. When visiting the cave, you will descend the specially designed stairs with great care, as the stairs are slippery and relatively unsafe due to the high humidity. It is located at a depth of 60 meters and thanks to its incredible beauty you can overcome any claustrophobia. The size of the cave does not exceed 100 meters and it is divided into two halls. The Royal Balcony, inside which translucent stalactites hang and the second hall is a natural amphitheater Apotheosis, with a vaulted ceiling 2 meters high. Geologically, the Drogarati Cave is considered one of the most extraordinary caves in Greece. Stalactites and stalagmites more than a hundred million years old make up the unique landscape and the temperature does not exceed 18 degrees Celsius. The cave is open to the public all year round and several events have been organized in the 900 m² hall in the past because of the excellent acoustics. It is one of the few caves where relatively bright lighting has been allowed to admire the grandeur that nature has created.
