Mount Likavit is located in the center of Athens, 277 meters above sea level. It is one of the most popular places among young people and tourists. According to legend, packs of wolves used to hide on the mountain, which is where the name comes from, which means "one hill, among a pack of wolves". There is another legend that the goddess Athena wanted to make a sanctuary on the Acropolis as close to the sky as possible. Once, during a violent thunderstorm at night, she went to Mount Pendelikon and tore off a large rock from it, but on her way to the Acropolis two black birds gave her bad news, from which the angry goddess threw the rock and forgot about it forever. If you visit this place, you will have a view of the Acropolis and Piraeus in front of you, where you can see the Saronic Gulf and the whole central part of the city. Likavitos is considered one of the most romantic places where you can hide from the noise of the city and enjoy the beautiful view both day and night. At the very top of the mountain there is a café and restaurant where you can spend a wonderful evening, either with company or with your loved one.
There are 3 ways to get to Mount Likavit:
1) Go up by car on the highway. 2) Go up by cable car.
3) On foot, if you are interested in the flora and fauna of this place, you can always walk along the numerous narrow paths.
