The island's town market (Mercato delle Erbe) was designed in 1933 by architect Florestano di Fausto and completed by architect Rodolfo Petracco in 1934. The impressive Italianate building is located in the main square of the island, Piazza Eleftherias. It has been recognized as a work of art and a historical monument, as it is an important building for the study of local architectural history. Here you can find a huge variety of local products such as sweet tomatoes, honey, oil, cinnamon and the famous Posia or Posis cheese, local wines, fresh fruits and vegetables and the truly intoxicating aromas of spices and herbs. You can also buy all kinds of gifts and souvenirs, from magnets to sponges, helmets and other tourist goods.
