The picturesque village of Asos is one of the most charming places on the island of Kefalonia. It is located on a narrow isthmus of the west coast, about 36 km from the capital of the island, Argostoli. The village is very small, and its population barely reaches 100 people. Nevertheless, the warm hospitality of the locals, the traditional Greek architecture, the narrow streets and the mountainous area covered with pine and cypress trees attract the lovers of a quiet and cozy rest here. The main attraction is the Venetian Castle, located on a steep rocky promontory. The once majestic fortification was built at the end of the 16th century. Its location was not chosen by chance, as the impregnable natural rock had an important strategic value, giving a reliable defense and a good view of the sea.
