The famous beach of Navagio Bay is without exaggeration one of the most beautiful and world famous bays in Greece. The beach is a small bay with white sand, surrounded by steep white cliffs with a crystal clear turquoise sea. On September 30, 1982, the merchant ship "Panayiotis" ran aground in Navagio Bay with smuggled cargo. The ship belonged to Kefalonians, Haralambo Kompotekla and was carrying smuggled cigarettes, which were loaded in the ports of Yugoslavia, Albania and transported on small speed boats to neighboring Italy. Navagio is also popular with adrenaline enthusiasts, as it is often parachuted from its 200-meter height. The only way to get to the beach is by boat from many of the island's harbor villages. The closest port to Navagio Beach is Porto Vromi.
