Near the village of Gargaliani is the Valta forest, which is crossed by a river with beautiful waterfalls and lakes, formed at the end of a gorge called Kokina patera. The area attracts many tourists to enjoy nature and take a dip in the water of these beautiful lakes. Along the river there is an old path that was used by the locals to reach the village of Filiatra. On the opposite hill called Kastraki, traces of a prehistoric settlement have been discovered and a hill with box-shaped tombs that have not yet been excavated. Not far away lie the ruins of the palace where Helena De Bruyerez, as the Lady of Moreina was known. To reach the Valta waterfall you can take the road to the village of Filiatra. Two kilometers from the cemetery you will see a sign leading to the waterfall on a dirt road, but after a while the road turns into a narrow path. The route passes through an olive grove with tall trees and thick foliage. The ideal time of year to visit the waterfall is winter, spring and early summer, when there is still running water.
