The sandy beach of Gerakas, completely surrounded by low cliffs, is located 14 km from the capital of Zakynthos. Gerakas beach is part of the island's National Marine Park. Caretta Caretta turtles have chosen this place to lay their eggs, so tourists are asked to behave carefully and not to scare the animals. Volunteers closely monitor vacationers so that they do not harm the animals. The beach is located in a large bay with golden sand, shallow water and low rocks that protect the beach and create a secluded atmosphere. There are no showers and nudists are found on the beach, with no specific nudist areas marked. Keep this in mind if you plan to visit with your children or spouse. The beach is famous for its quietness due to the lack of infrastructure, car traffic and the prohibition of all water sports.
