Maratonisi is a small uninhabited island located in Laganas Bay. The island was inhabited before World War II, but now it is a national marine park. There are two wonderful beaches on the island - one beach is pebbly near the sea cave (which can be reached by swimming or by boat) and the other beach is sandy. The crystal clear water is ideal for underwater lovers. The island is home to Caretta Caretta turtles, which reach over a meter in length, which is why the island is also called turtle island. In June the turtles lay their eggs on the island, and the rest of the time they can be found in the sea. The island has dense vegetation, olive trees and pine trees. There is no infrastructure on the island, so it is better to bring your own food and drinks. It is forbidden to stay on the island after sunset.
